With this writing we would like to answer the above question. This is a question that is asked frequently and we would like to find an answer from God's holy book.
God has provided us all things that pertain to live and godliness. He has made this promise, so we can find an answer to this question.
2Pe 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
All things that pertain to life and godliness are given to us. That is what God has provided for His people, His own peculiar people.
When we think of our question it is of utmost importance that we find an answer from the word of God. Where else can we turn then to Him, who is our life and wisdom.
Wisdom, heavenly wisdom that is, can only be found with and in God, God has given us a word that is completely pure and holy.
God has called us to glory and to virtue.
These words have the meaning that we are to live lives to the glory of God, that is we are to magnify Him in all that we do. By what we do we are to show Him to those around us.
The word “virtue” has in it that we are to strive for these things that are excellent, excellent in the eyes of God and in line with seeking His glory. We are to seek Him in all that we are.
God wants us to be holy, that means we are “set apart”, set apart for service unto Him.
1Co 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
From this verse we understand that we are to glorify Him who is our life. We are to glorify Him in body and in spirit. We belong to Him, we do not belong to ourselves, we have been bought and paid for. We are to be different. We are to be like Christ. We are to grow into His likeness. (Rom. 8: 29)
1. 2 Kor. 6: 14- 18
2 Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
2 Co 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
2 Co 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
2 Co 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
2 Co 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
From this scripture we would like to make some observations.
A. We are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers.
God helps us to understand that we are not to be in an unequally yoked relationship with unbelievers. He further labours his argument by asking 5 questions namely:
So, Christians are not to be yoked together with unbelievers. The reason is that there is no fellowship between one another.
What does this word mean?
